LYCRA introduces LYCRA Anti x Slip fibre to help prevent the seams of stretch denim from slipping
At the 61st Dornbien Global Fiber Conference (GFC) recently held in Austria, Nicholas Kurland, Senior R&D Scientist at LYCRA, outlined the new LYCRA Anti x Slip fibre for high performance woven fabrics, Especially the benefits of denim.
He says there is a growing focus on sustainable denim production, along with the use of viscose, rayon, Lessel, hemp and other fiber blends in denim construction.
"As a result of the use of these anti-friction fibers, seam slip is a challenge for textile mills, brands and retailers, as well as the ultimate consumer, which can lead to product returns and consumer dissatisfaction with the quality and aesthetic of the garment. Washing will affect the life of the denim and result in waste."
Elastic fiber slip is defined as the absence of elastic fibers across the entire width of the fabric and occurs through the axial misalignment of the elastic fibers in the covered yarn. This can be due to poor fiber selection or fabric structure containing a large number of smooth fibers. It can also be caused by damaged elastic fibers during spinning and fabric finishing, poor sewing quality, breakage of elastic yarn that causes it to slip, or heavy laundry washing formulas that trigger the slip.
LYCRA Anti x Slip fibre solves these problems by employing a patent-pending filament structure and proprietary chemical composition specifically designed to increase the adhesion and friction between the surrounding hard and Lycra fibers. LYCRA Anti-Slip fibre is the superior seam slip solution for single-core spandex (elastic fiber) fabrics that require durable elasticity and good resilience. The patent-pending fiber reduces wrinkles caused by seam slippage and improves overall garment quality.
