Polyester spandex

Polyester textiles are generally not flexible. However, by combining spandex (or Lycra) fibers with polyester fibers, polyester can be transformed into a fabric with four-way stretch. Polyester spandex textiles typically contain 90-92% polyester and 8-10% spandex fibers, which determine the elasticity of the garment. Polyester spandex is generally very cheap and ideal for producing leggings and other activewear or athletic equipment.

Rayon spandex

Rayon fabrics are generally lighter, but rayon spandex is slightly heavier than standard rayon. Rayon is not typically a stretchy fabric, but the addition of spandex makes it stretchier. Rayon spandex fabric is typically composed of 95% rayon and 5% spandex. Using spandex does not reduce the breathability of rayon; the fabric is still very breathable. Stretch fabrics like this are often used in leggings, dresses and skirts.

Nylon spandex

Nylon-spandex is a fabric that contains both nylon and spandex. Nylon and spandex each account for up to 50% of the fabric. Nylon itself is generally not stretchable but is very durable. Adding spandex to fabric can make it both strong and stretchy. Nylon spandex fabric is used to make tights, swimsuits, dancewear and clothing.

Cotton spandex

Like polyester, cotton is primarily a woven fabric with little natural stretch. It can also be combined with spandex for 4-way stretch. Cotton spandex textiles are typically composed of 95% cotton and 5% spandex fibers. This fabric can be used in dresses and skirts, but is most commonly used in stretch-soft cotton leggings.

Satin is not generally considered a flexible fabric, especially when made from synthetic fibers such as polyester. Although silk satin does not have four-way stretch, it has relatively good elasticity. It's important to understand that satin refers to the texture of the fabric rather than a specific fabric type. Therefore, satin can be applied to any kind of fabric that is manufactured in some way. Stretch satin fabric is usually made from a blend of nylon and spandex.
