What is a Ponte De Roma fabric?
Ponte Roma is also known as Ponte-De-Roma or Punto-De-Roma. It is a double knit meaning that it
has a double layer of fabric knitted with 2 sets of needles on 2 needle beds of a circular knit machine.
Ponte Roma is a firm and stable knit that holds its shape well in a garment. It wears like t-shirt fabric
and feels secure like an outer garment. Ponte Roma fabric can be knitted from any combination of
yarns in a variety of weights. Spandex is often included to increase the stretch. Being a double knit
means that it's a two faced fabric so it can be used for unlined or reversible styles.
Ponte De Roma fabric is a knit fabric that is know as a stable double knit fabric, it will not stretch as
much as other knit fabrics such as jersey or interlock, but it will not curl or fray as much as them when
cut either. The fabrics are easy to sew with and will have a slightly textured finish to them which is
down the shape of the knit used to create the fabric.
Usage
Ponte Roma jersey fabrics are tremendously versatile. They can be used for elegant tops, draping
layers of tunics , dresses, skirts and a wide range of trousers from leggings to palazzo-style lounge
pants.
